The Dallas Stars have signed forward Alexander Radulov to a lucrative five-year contract worth $31.25million, the team announced on Monday.

Radulov's deal, which is the biggest in free agency thus far, carries an average annual value of $6.25 million and runs through the 2021-22 season.

"Alexander is a dynamic playmaker with top-end speed and skill," general manager Jim Nill said. "To add a forward of this stature to our lineup makes our top six as deep and talented as any group in this league."

Radulov, who turns 31 on Wednesday, is expected to complement center Martin Hanzal, who was recently signed by the Stars on a three-year deal worth $14.25 million, after Dallas lost veteran forward Patrick Sharp to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Initially selected 15th overall by the Nashville Predators in the 2004 NHL Draft, Radulov has left the league twice and returned to his home country to play for CSKA Moscow in the KHL. He signed a one-year deal with the Montreal Canadiens last July and logged 18 goals and 36 assists in 76 games on his return to the NHL.

He won gold at the World Championships in 2008 and 2009, in addition to gold at the U18 World Junior Championship in 2004.
